Project overview

Financial institutions generate and process enormous volumes of internal and external documents, the foundation of every bank's relationship with its clients. As those volumes grow, accurately identifying and matching documents becomes an operational challenge with a direct impact on internal process efficiency.

Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, Rapid Finance is a leading U.S. financial services company specializing in fast, flexible funding solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. With over $3 billion in financing deployed across a wide range of industries, the company offers products including small business loans, lines of credit, merchant cash advances, bridge loans, SBA loans, invoice factoring and asset-based lending.

Rapid Finance holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and a 5.0 rating on Trustpilot, and has been recognized with the 2023 FinTech Breakthrough Award for Best Business Lending Product. Its Rapid Enterprise division also provides enterprise lending technology, including the Decisioneer loan origination platform and the Lynx AI-ready data aggregation and fraud detection platform - to banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions.

Since 2013, the company has partnered with Essensys to transform and scale its lending operations through technology, automation and enterprise-grade infrastructure.
Over 13 years of collaboration, the project has grown from a core loan management system into a comprehensive digital lending platform, spanning analytics, workflow automation, and operational intelligence. This case study traces how that ecosystem was built and how it continues to power Rapid Finance today.

The partnership's central goal was to develop and continuously evolve an integrated digital platform capable of supporting and optimizing the full scope of Rapid Finance's lending operations.
The platform built by Essensys includes dedicated customer and partner portals, a core loan management system (CALC), and a data and Business Intelligence infrastructure designed to handle complex processes, large data volumes, and sustained operational growth. Since launch, the platform has been continuously expanded with new features, integrations, and modules built to meet Rapid Finance's evolving operational needs and scaling ambitions.

The client’s challenge

When Rapid Finance engaged Essensys in 2013, the company was experiencing rapid growth but lacked the digital infrastructure to sustain it. Key challenges included:

  • Fragmented manual processes across the full lending lifecycle – from client onboarding and loan approval through disbursement and partner commission management,
  • No unified digital channel for customers or broker partners, resulting in slow application cycles and limited visibility into loan status,
  • The need for a scalable core loan management engine capable of handling thousands of simultaneous loans with complex eligibility, pricing, and workflow logic,
  • Heavy cross-system reporting dependencies that degraded the performance of live operational databases and limited business intelligence capabilities,
  • Integration requirements with U.S.-specific third-party systems for identity verification, fraud detection, tax compliance, document signing and CRM

The goal was to design and build an integrated digital ecosystem capable of supporting the full operational complexity of a growing alternative finance business and to evolve it continuously as Rapid Finance scaled.

Conclusion

What began in 2013 as a technology partnership has evolved into a long-term digital transformation engagement, one that today powers Rapid Finance’s lending operations at enterprise scale.

This longevity reflects a partnership built on continuity: much of the same Essensys team that built the original loan management platform in 2013 continues to design, extend, and support it today, pairing deep institutional knowledge of Rapid Finance’s business with current engineering practices.

As Rapid Finance continues to grow and expand its enterprise lending technology offering, the Essensys partnership remains central to that roadmap – ready to support the next phase of its digital lending evolution.
